Q: Who are you?
A: Dorian is the lab manager for a science department at a local college, and Whit is the education director for an aquatic attraction. We both hold advanced degrees in marine biology, and have had no formal jewelry training (hence the "rogue"). We are "learning by doing", and are still on the steep end of the curve. Q: So did you really make this stuff? A: Yes, we individually, painstakingly, and sometimes tortuously render each piece by hand. We generally start with a cut stone, silver sheet and/or wire, and whatever findings are needed for the piece (ex. spring clasps, heads, etc.), and saw, cut, hammer, solder, grind, polish (scream, beg, weep, bleed...) until the item is (FINALLY) done. Q: Where do you get your raw materials? A: We buy our materials from local suppliers, on-line suppliers, and on-line auctions. We try to support area businesses as much as possible. Q: What types of materials do you use? A: Most of our pieces are made from natural materials: natural stone, natural (non-lab) gemstones, sterling silver, copper, wood and bone. In some cases synthetics may be incorporated into a piece to add stability or keep costs reasonable--these will be so noted in the item description. All silver is sterling unless otherwise noted. PLEASE NOTE: some findings such as spring clasps, head pins, etc. may contain metals other than silver. Persons with metal or other jewelry-related allergies may wish to avoid our products. We DO NOT state, guarantee, or imply that any of our products are allergen-free. Peanut allergies included, as PB&J residue may be present on some items. Q: What kind of guarantee do you offer?
Q: Oh, so you can size rings, etc.? A: Well, it depends. Rings with a pattern in the band or pieces with funny stone settings generally cannot be sized; however, if you like a design, let us know--we may be able to work up another (or similar) in your size depending on material availability. Q: What kinds of payment do you accept? A: From local folk, we'll gladly accept check or cash. If you are ordering by mail, we accept cashier's checks or money orders (please contact us first to put your piece on hold). If you wish to pay via credit card, we also accept PayPal. PayPal is a safe, convenient, and FREE! South Carolina residents please add 6% tax. Q: Do you ship? A: Sure! We ship using Priority Mail and can add insurance if desired. Insurance is strongly recommended---we do not guarantee non-insured shipments. C: Ewwww! There's a piece of fuzz in the picture! A: Hey, despite our best efforts, sometimes an addition from our furry roommate slips into the frame. Blame her. No extra charge for any hair included with your purchase. |
